It works with some trial and error
I was very excited to receive this and try it out. The first two times I used it, I set the microwave to the highest power setting and was disappointed that many of the kernels didn't pop. I tried different power settings and so far, Level 7 seems to work best. For the people who say it doesn't work, I know it is a pain and seems like a waste, but I definitely recommend trying different power levels.

Amazing Popper!!!
It was giving to me as a Christmas gift. I absolutely love it. I can pop it dry or I can add oil & butter and it taste just like I popped it on the stove. No more buying microwave popcorn. This way you can fix it your way. So easy to clean.

Love this popper!
I originally bought this for my wife for Christmas. She LOVES popcorn! She loves it so much we will sometimes go to the movie theater, not to watch a movie, but to get popcorn. My mom is the same way. So after I saw how much my wife loved it I got one for my mom. My mom has repeatedly eaten nothing but buttered popcorn for dinner since she got it. She's very happy about it too!

Burned popcorn all over the country.
I bought this as a gift for a bunch of friends for Christmas. It did not work for anybody. Tried the freshest popcorn and all settings on microwave. No matter what. Half of corn pops and what pops is always burned or burned tasting.

Not disappointed
I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend for our anniversary. One of our favorite ways to relax is watching movies in bed, and he is a popcorn fiend; this was the perfect gift! Now I can cook popcorn quickly without having gross bagged microwave popcorn.

Can you use any kernels bought from the store or does it have to be specifically Uncommon Goods kernels?
Verified reply from SiRandal
Great question! Yes, you can buy popcorn kernels from the store to use with this item. We sell the Popcorn Kernel and Seasoning Sets(24888) that you can buy to add a distinct flavor to your popcorn. I hope this info helps Thanks for shopping with us, and Happy Holidays!

Do you have the same style large enough to yield about 3 cups of popped corn
Verified reply from Valerie
You're in luck, because this product has the capacity to make 3.5 cups of popcorn.

I cannot get this thing to work. Followed the directions exactly. Kernels finally popped after 4 mins cooking time but were burnt. Tried eliminating the butter in 2nd batch. Cooked for 4 minutes only 10 kernels popped. Then tried again with cold butter for 3rd batch, no kernels popped after 4 minutes. I went back to my old method of cooking kernels in my Pyrex bowl for 4 minutes -perfection. So I know it's not the kernels. So then I tried melting a little bit of butter in the bottom of the container before popping the kernels. The 1/4tsp of butter took more than a minute to melt in this container because it doesn't get hot which I think is why things aren't popping? Really frustrated with this product and annoyed since I bought 2 of them as Christmas gifts.

We're sorry the popper has been so frustrating. We reached out to the maker of this product and she had a couple suggestions: the butter should be placed in the silicone cap, not in the bottom of the bowl for best results. Also, the power and design of various microwave ovens varies a great deal, so you may have to adjust the cooking time and/or power level. If youy'd like to return or exchange it, we'd be happy to help with a free replacement, refund, or exchange. We hope you call us at 888-365-0056 or e-mail us at help@uncommongoods.com.

I agree with Lolo. I can't get the thing to work consistently either. I now set it for 6 minutes to get most to pop. I also found that you can't re-pop the kernals that didn't pop the first time. And I think you can't use the popper again until it cools down again. No idea how everyone else is raving about this. The only good news is that I don't eat as much as I would if this thing worked how I want it to work.

Cannot get this thing to work. I finally took the popcorn out and popped the corn in the stove pot. I'm wondering if it is my microwave. It is kinda old but still works wonderfully. Will get one of my kids to try it in a newer microwave.

HI. My husband has a hearty appetite, is there a large size available?

Sorry, the 3.5 cup capacity is the only size we offer. We do have a stove top popper that makes 24 cups: http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/stovetop-popcorn-popper

Valerie, I saw your responses to people asking about using oil. Can you explain why you don't recommend it? Couldn't a small amount be drizzled where the butter goes & drips down? I was going to order this to use with varied oils for flavoring, but I'll wait for your answer. Thanks!
Verified reply from Martin
It's not necessary to use oil during the cooking process, but you can drizzle oil or butter during or after the corn popping.

What's the measure of kernels that get popped? What is the yield of popped corn?
Verified reply from Jen
That's sort of tricky to answer as it depends on your microwave and the kernels you're using. For reference, I used fairly old kernels (about a year old) in my 1,000 watt microwave and about 7/8 of the kernels popped, which is more than I get out of a bag of microwaved popcorn, so I was really pleased.
