What Makes It Uncommon

Known as some of the best hoppers around, frogs can jump into action in a split second. Richard Kolb’s handmade springing garden toads are no exception.

  • Each toad is made from repurposed metal and doorknobs, then suspended from a spring coil that bounces and sways with the wind.
  • Choose from a guitar-playing toad troubadour sitting on the moon or an aquatic amphibian swaying from an umbrella in the rain.
  • Handmade in Kentucky.

A lifelong resident of Kentucky, Richard Kolb is a proud graduate of the University of Kentucky and an accomplished metal sculptor. He uses mostly scrap and recycled parts to create metal birds, critters, dogs and cats. Some of the materials he uses include garden tools, car parts, farm implements, bicycle parts and mufflers.

"I think these sculptures are a great way to contribute to the good of the environment," Richard says. "They save rejected metal parts from ending up in a landfill and they beautify homes and yards everywhere!"

"I believe the things that make us happiest in life are not always the necessities, but usually the things that we do not need."
