The Experience

If you've ever been to Paris, you probably noticed that all the cafés and bistros have a little pot of mustard at every table. In France and many parts of the world, mustard is indispensable for quick snacks and gourmet meals alike, yet in the US, we still tend to think of the tangy condiment as little more than a hot-dog topper—until now. Join culinary expert Ashlee Lewis for this live online class that delves into the rich, zesty, and sometimes surprising flavors that have made mustard a global favorite for centuries. History, tasting, and cooking come together in an entertaining, informative experience that'll make mustard your new must-have for all kinds of dishes.

  • Class begins with a quick history of mustard, followed by an interactive taste testing of three exquisite varieties: Pinot Noir, Chablis, and Honey & Balsamic (see "Comes with the class," below).
  • You'll taste each mustard on its own, and then paired with a classic soft pretzel to highlight its unique flavor, and evaluate it on a scorecard.
  • Class will end with a hands-on cooking segment where you'll make Ashlee's original recipe for a zesty Hot Slaw served over baguette or pita, transforming simple ingredients into gourmet delights.
Class length: 75 minutes.
Comes with the class: Our Gourmet French Mustard Gift Set includes the three mustards you’ll be tasting in class, each crafted by a French family business that’s been making mustard since 1840.

About

When Ashlee Lewis' 10-year-old son said he wanted to be a vegetarian, Ashlee got to work on ingredients and recipes. A busy attorney, Ashlee found the change to be a health bonus to herself as well. The New York native spent part of her childhood in South Carolina's Gullah Geechee culture, and she adapted her family's Southern cooking to her new way of eating—and was soon teaching others how to embrace plant-based cuisine. "Food isn't just a foundation for health," she says. "It's a love language, and I love playing a role in that expression."

For this class, you will need the included Gourmet French Mustard Gift Set, a medium-sized skillet, a small mixing bowl, a cutting board, a kitchen knife, a cooking utensil, measuring spoons, a measuring cup, a plate for serving, the scorecard and a pen in addition to the ingredients listed in the link below
