What Makes It Uncommon

Run Away with the Spoon

The food's about to come out and your guests are gathered around the table. Then someone realizes the salad tong's missing and the forks are nowhere to be found. Avoid this mealtime predicament with a handmade ceramic caddy that makes moving your utensils from the counter to the table easy (Whether that's just across the room or into the backyard.) Crafted in sturdy stoneware by Al and Jeni Hoeksema and finished with a deep blue glaze, the design is pretty enough to put out as a centerpiece when you set the tableā€”but portable enough to grab at the last minute if you forget. Its three compartments and handy carrying loop also make it useful beyond the kitchen, from organizing art supplies to stashing makeup brushes. Al and Jeni even use theirs as a vase to create fun floral arrangements. Handmade in Texas.

Due to the handmade nature of this item, each is unique and will vary.

ā€œWe feel very lucky that we can do what we love every day and bring joy to others with our art.ā€

When Al and Jeni Hoeksema met, they didnā€™t know theyā€™d end up one day being partners in business and marriage. They met at a pottery studio in McQueeney, Texas, where they were each practicing their crafts as artists and honing business skills.

Jeni had been a freelance artist for years, working mostly as an illustrator. Al earned a BFA in ceramics, and likes to tell Jeni she has an NBA degree: ā€œNatural Born Artist.ā€ So, they combined their talents, opened their own studio, and then tied the knot.

Now, Al and Jeni design functional stoneware and decorative earthenware together in Spring Branch, Texas. Jeni illustrates and sculpts and Al throws the pieces. They ā€œfeel very lucky that we can do what we love every day and bring joy to others with our art.ā€
