Heidi Brown wouldn’t let mistakes discourage her while teaching herself pottery. “I believe failure is growth, and there’s been a lot of growth!” she jokes. Encouraged by her husband, Joe, Heidi has been making ceramics since 2019 while continuing to work as an education director in her native Des Moines. Although pottery is a part-time pursuit for now, Heidi describes herself as hooked for good. “Every time I open a kiln,” she explains, “it feels like Christmas morning.”
