What Makes It Uncommon

Massachusetts, you can show your state pride while you whip up that signature dish. Kerry Brooks’ hand-sculpted stoneware pieces are a safe (and pretty) place to set your spoon between stirs.

  • Designed not to wobble, the sturdy spoon rests are finished in food-safe glazes.
  • Stamped with the state name and a leaf of its tree on the back.
  • They’re not just for spoons. Keep one next to the sink to hold rings or to catch jewelry on a dresser.
  • Each functional piece of art is one-of-a-kind and will vary.
  • Uncommon Originals: created by our in-house team and only available at Uncommon Goods.
  • Hand-sculpted of stoneware clay in Minnesota.

Due to the handmade nature of this item, each is unique and will vary.

Minnesota

Potter Kerry Brooks was heading towards a PhD in American Cultures from the University of Michigan before she decided to move to Ann Arbor and train in ceramics instead, from 1988 to 1992. The next year, she moved to Minneapolis, and co-founded a four-person pottery collective the year after that. The other three potters eventually moved on, so she's run the business herself for the last 15 years. As an employer (currently of 45 people) and gallery host, she has influenced the next generation of Minnesota clay artists, and many of her employees are artists in their own right. Pottery remains Kerry's passion, but she loves to travel and sing when she's not running her business, doing philanthropic work, or raising her daughter.
