Folklore has long associated the joyful red cardinal with the presence of angels and those who have left us. Inspired by that comforting idea, Lucy Golden has crafted her own endearing version of the winged messenger to bring solace and hope to someone who has experienced a loss.

In New Hampshire’s White Mountains, you’ll find Lucy Golden’s home and studio on a 350-acre farm surrounded by woods and rivers. Lucy’s been making jewelry since her teens, and she’s inspired by all of nature, especially caterpillars, mushrooms, and moths—she even raises four species of giant silk moths. As an artist and naturalist, Lucy hopes that her work links people with the natural world. “This connection between humans and the environment is its best defense,” she says, “and ours, also.”
