Caribbean soul food has a storied tradition, with roots in West African culture and influences from all over the world. Join chef Ashlee Lewis for a live virtual class where you’ll learn three succulent recipes that are steeped in the taste of the islands and will nourish you, body and soul.

  • What's on the menu? Plantain and black bean stew, Jamaican rice and peas, and wilted kale with creamy curry dressing—as Ashlee calls it, "A party plate of flavor!"
  • You’ll learn how to multitask like a pro as you prepare this tantalizing vegan trio, made with ingredients that are easy to find in your local market.
  • Ashlee will share her inspiration for living a meat-free lifestyle, discuss vegetarian alternatives, and explain why she prefers whole foods over soy- or gluten-based meat substitutes.

About

When Ashlee Lewis' 10-year-old son said he wanted to be a vegetarian, Ashlee got to work on ingredients and recipes. A busy attorney, Ashlee found the change to be a health bonus to herself as well. The New York native spent part of her childhood in South Carolina's Gullah Geechee culture, and she adapted her family's Southern cooking to her new way of eating—and was soon teaching others how to embrace plant-based cuisine. "Food isn't just a foundation for health," she says. "It's a love language, and I love playing a role in that expression."

For this class, you'll need a large stockpot, a large skillet, a medium skillet, a medium bowl, a hand grater or microplane, a wooden spoon or rubber spatula, a small blender or a small bowl and whisk and the ingredients listed in the link below.
