Fun fact: Bees can’t see all the colors that humans can. Funner fact: Bees can see ultraviolet shades that humans need a black light to make visible. Jen Rose uses this buzz-worthy science to make sure our mighty pollinators stay hydrated on their high-flying adventures.

  • Give your backyard or deck garden a pit stop for bees and butterflies with a set of 5 tiny handmade ceramic cups that mimic the look of flowers.
  • Tap into the bees’ ability to see ultraviolet hues with either the Bold Set with Bee Vision, featuring vibrantly dyed porcelain, or the Bee Vision Set, which boasts a more subtle color scheme. Although the glaze looks clear to human eyes, the little winged wonders see intense pink and purple.
  • Each cup holds a teaspoon of water that will last for as little as 30 minutes or up to 12 hours, depending on humidity.
  • To use, place the pointed end directly in the dirt in an area near plants but not covered by foliage. Cups are dishwasher-safe.
  • Made in Texas.

“I consider myself a professional artist and an amateur scientist,” says ceramicist Jen Rose. With an MFA in ceramics from the University of Texas and 20 years of teaching in academia under her belt, she’s now dedicated full-time to her bee cups. Jen researched bee anatomy and behavior to design a beautiful, helpful product, formulating her own UV-reactive glaze so bees can see the small water collectors better. She works out of a large studio in West Dallas, employing many ceramics students.
