The Experience

Imbibing special spirits before and after a meal is a tradition as old as civilization itself. These unique distillations have evolved over thousands of years into sophisticated drinks that reflect cultural influences and turn even a simple dish into an epicurean experience. Join expert mixologist Tamu Curtis for this fascinating live online class where you’ll explore the world of before- and after-dinner cocktails—a.k.a., cordials, aperitifs, and digestifs—and create distinctive drinks that will become essential to your home-bar repertoire.

  • Start the class with crafting a Carajillo, an espresso-based cocktail from Mexico with warm, spicy notes that make for luxurious after-dinner drinking.
  • Move on to the Sgroppino, a classic Italian palate cleanser or dessert cocktail of prosecco, sorbet, and limoncello—and discover how to make your own limoncello from scratch using your new kit (see "Comes with the class," below).
  • Create a Black Manhattan—a version of the classic Manhattan that uses Italian amaro in place of sweet vermouth—and explore using bittersweet liqueurs to create the complex flavor profiles that are essential to digestifs.
  • Delve into the fascinating history of aperitifs and digestifs, from ancient origins to modern-day traditions.
Class length: 90 minutes.
Comes with the class: Our Homemade Limoncello Kit has all the tools you’ll need to craft the iconic lemony liqueur that’s a zesty addition to cocktails and a refreshing after-dinner drink all on its own.

About

After moving from Los Angeles to Charlotte, North Carolina, Tamu Curtis immersed herself in the growing city's culinary and bar culture. Her career in the hospitality industry gave her the chance to meet bartenders who inspired her to host mixology events and classes, and eventually to open her own cocktail goods and lifestyle shop. Having taught more than 500 in-person and online classes, Tamu understands how mixology can seem mystifying to many beginners. "My goal is to make it more approachable to the at-home enthusiast," she says. "I enjoy seeing people have the same epiphany I had when it came to making cocktails."

For this class, you'll need the included Homemade Limoncello Kit, a small saucepan, a knife, glassware, a jigger or measuring spoons, a barspoon, a shaker or mason jar, a Hawthorne strainer or small fine mesh strainer, ice and the ingredients listed in the link below.
