You love your juicy succulents and big leafy monstera, but you’re craving a new gardening challenge—or you just want to green-up your home with something that’s not the average potted plant. Sounds like you’re up for kokedama. The word is Japanese for
moss ball, and while these self-contained live sculptures may look like they require the skills of a master gardener, instructor
Savannah Barkley will teach you the simple steps to making a kokedama in this live virtual class.
- Savannah will start the class with background on the art of kokedama as she explains the materials you'll be using.
- Next, she’ll walk you through the process of turning moss, soil, and twine into your very first kokedama: a petite hanging umbrella plant.
- Finally, you’ll learn how to display and care for your creation and Savannah will answer any questions you have; your work of living art will be completed by the end of class.
- Almost any small plant can grow in a kokedama, so this experience is a wonderful gift to someone who’ll be excited to learn a new style of gardening and discover a relaxing, creative pastime.
Class length: 60 minutes
Comes with the class: Created by Savannah, our
Hanging Kokedama Ball Kit includes soil, twine, sheet moss, and an umbrella plant. Because the kit contains a live plant, we’ll ship it to arrive one week before your scheduled class date. We recommend opening the kit when you receive it and letting the plant get some sunlight before class.
