The Experience

keyboard_arrow_up

The ancient Romans knew a thing or two about honey, which they prized for its sweetness and considered essential for health-giving elixirs. So it’s no wonder their descendants in modern-day Italy are still masterful cultivators of the golden ambrosia. In this live virtual experience, honey expert Helen Goelet from the Bona Furtuna organic heirloom farm takes you on a journey via taste bud to sun-drenched Sicily for an hour of sweet discovery. You’ll sample organic Italian raw honeys, appraise their distinct flavor nuances, and learn how to mix a luscious honey-sweetened cocktail that’ll have you living la dolce vita with every sip.

  • Helen will open the class by sharing the story of fellow B Corp Bona Furtuna and introducing the samples you’ll be tasting: Lemon Blossom Honey, Sulla Honey, Wildflower Honey, and Bee Pollen, all sourced from bees that harvest the orchards and meadows surrounding the farm.
  • As you spoon your way through the tasting, Helen will explain how to detect the flavor profiles of each sample and savor the richness of Sicily’s unique terroir. You'll also try each honey with a pinch of salt, herbs, or spices to experience the nuances that honey brings to savory dishes.
  • Explore ideas for incorporating honey into cooking, cocktails, or mocktails, and discover luscious honey pairings.
  • Learn how to make a Lemon Blossom Honey simple syrup, and then use it to craft a zesty Amaro Sour cocktail that you’ll savor with your classmates at the end of the hour (you’ll learn how to make it nonalcoholic too).
  • Class length: 60 minutes.
Comes with the class: Our Taste of Italy Naturally Infused Raw Honey Set is a botanical treasure trove from Bona Furtuna, a fellow B Corp dedicated to preserving heirloom Italian ingredients and sustainable heritage farming practices. The set includes three Bona Furtuna organic honeys, organic bee pollen, a chef-curated recipe book, and a golden spoon, packaged in a handsome gift box.

About

As a US-based member of the Bona Furtuna team, Helen Goelet calls Wyoming home—and while she may be far from the Sicilian countryside, her work as a recipe developer and coordinator for the heirloom farm (and fellow B Corp) gives her a taste of Italy every day. Helen is proud to be part of Bona Furtuna's dedication to preserving traditional Italian ingredients and loves sharing what they create with others, especially when it's something as delectable and surprisingly versatile as their organic honey. "Everyone loves honey," she explains, "but sometimes the nuances of 'nature's candy' aren't fully appreciated."

For this class, you'll need the included Taste of Italy Naturally Infused Raw Honey set, a small sauce pot, a small measuring cup, a cocktail shaker, a strainer, a jigger, 2 glasses, a knife and cutting board, additional spoons for tasting (optional), a citrus juicer (optional), in addition to the ingredients listed in the link below.
