The illustrations in old children’s books provide smiles and nostalgia (and a healthy dose of inspiration) for artist Keiko Hayner. Born and raised in Osaka, Japan, she moved to the United States to study English upon graduating from art school. After 10 years working in childcare, the COVID pandemic reignited her childhood passion for drawing and painting. Today, in her home studio in Austin, Texas, she creates dreamy watercolors reminiscent of the books she grew up on.
